Giuseppe Tornatore Cinema Paradiso (1988). Though derided by critics for its
saccharine storyline, this Oscar-winning film by Sicilian director Tornatore received
popular acclaim the world over. Shot around Cefalù, it follows the friendship between
a young boy and the local cinema projectionist, and is in many ways a homage to
cinema itself.
