At the far end of Via Alloro, Piazza Sant’Anna is home to the Convento di Sant’Anna,
which has been stunningly restored and opened as the seat of the Galleria d’Arte
Moderna. The collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Sicilian works here is
displayed thematically (portraits, nudes, mythology, seascapes, landscapes etc) to
great effect. Its café, spilling into the courtyard in summer, is one of the loveliest
places in the city for lunch or an aperitif. Prestigious international touring exhibitions
often visit, too.
